Information for New Parents
We understand that every child is different and work with parents on settling in routines, we will let you know how they are getting on during the morning through WhatsApp photos and texts.
Your child will have a key person who will take especial care of your child, helping with settling in and completing a Learning Journal of your child’s progress and development. You will have opportunities to meet with your child’s key person to discuss their progress and contribute to their learning.
Children at Preschool are encouraged to independently choose resources and are supported to learn through play. Children can use a variety of art and craft materials, select books to look at in the book corner and use our interactive Smart board.
Our home corner changes with children’s interests; recently it’s been a Chinese restaurant, a supermarket and a vets. We offer a free-flow system where children are able to explore our stimulating outdoor environment as they please throughout each session.
Our pedagogy follows In The Moment Planning which ensures that every child is able to fully explore their own unique ideas and interests. We are also inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to make the most of our wonderful outdoor learning environment and beautiful countryside location.
On Thursday afternoons we have a varied programme of activities to help our Rising 5s gain independence and prepare for school. Our Outdoor Explorer sessions enable children to explore the world around them and ignite their curiosity in nature.
We provide a healthy snack each morning such as fruit and vegetables and offer milk or water to drink throughout the session. We encourage healthy lunchboxes and ask parents not to include fizzy drinks, chocolate or sweets.
Please could everything that comes to Preschool be labelled, this helps us to quickly identify who things belong to and solve issues when many children have the same drink bottle or jumper.
We ask the following:
- Children come to Preschool in suitable clothes and shoes that enable them to take part in all activities both indoors and outside.
- Children have a spare change of clothes in a bag.
- Scooters and helmets are not left outside Preschool – as the ramp is a fire exit and disabled access it needs to be kept clear.
- Payment is due in advance and on a monthly basis.
- Children are welcome to arrive between 9-9.15am, staggered arrival will ease congestion at the door. Please say goodbye to your child at the door.
